It's July, let's talk ADA and Mental Health..

As we celebrate July, it's essential to recognize that this month, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its significant impact on safeguarding the rights of individuals with disabilities was voted into law.

This law protects against discrimination in various aspects of public life, including employment, and was passed this month. While many organizations understand the technical aspects of the law, few employees are aware of their rights under it.

It is important to note that recent case law recognizes pregnancy and its related medical conditions as protected under the ADA. In another instance, patients suffering from sickle cell disease also have rights under the ADA and may require reasonable accommodations during a crisis. As professionals who work with people, it is crucial that we are familiar with both federal and state laws that apply to our companies. This knowledge will not only protect your businesses but also support our employees in their personal and professional growth.

Here's what's happening at SyzyGen this month:

- Our book club recommendation is "Crazy AF and Fearless" by the remarkable leader @Natasha Bowman, JD, SPHR, who advocates for mental health education and knowledge in the workplace. Just started, and I am riveted.

- Join our leadership lessons series: Leading and Mental Health...Because It's Lonely at the Top! Beth and Danielle will join us live to discuss gaining perspective and tools to keep us balanced.

- We are thrilled to begin a new project with the Sickle Cell Warriors Foundation. This healthcare advocacy group provides education and financial assistance to individuals affected by the disease and its consequences. We invite you to join us on this journey with them.
